“It is so much fun to travel in the Airstream…..we attract attention wherever we go and have met so many people……our Uwe designed Airstream has been more fun than we ever dreamed it could be.”

Our story is that my husband wanted a new Airstream and I wanted a vintage one …..and we wanted to be able to work while on the road because my dear husband will never retire……so Uwe took on the challenge to make the 1968 28’ Ambassador new on the inside and vintage on the outside as well as be very functional—-that is; it has a wonderful galley so we can cook healthy meals and it needed to accommodate computers and printers and have a wonderful sound system (Bose) and be comfortable for us to travel…as well as be able to boondock for several days (tanks, solar and propane)…..and Uwe scored a home run on all points….. We have seen a lot of restorations and it is easy to do “surface” upgrades. But we wanted everything in the trailer to have a purpose and work really well. Our Airstream was rebuilt literally from the floor/axles/tires up. We kept the original floorplan pretty much intact and instead focused on making the trailer truly functional and beautiful. Uwe planned for things we would not have tought of like pushbutton stabelizers and a tankless water heater/furnace combination.

We took the Airstream on a working journey this past summer with my husband speaking to attorneys at bar association meetings across the country traveling over 11,000 miles, visiting 21 states and lasting 3 months…….We loved our trailer as much when we returned home as when we left and only suffered a broken window (something must have hit the window when we were on the road). It took about 18 months for the rebuild and, yes, we were over budget mostly because we opted for the high end option every time; but we were not disappointed with Uwe’s design and workmanship. By the way, we only stayed in a hotel one night of the entire 3 month journey and that was because we were parked 1 ½ hours away from the meeting in Chicago—-not because we wanted to be away from our sweet Suite Spot….

It is so much fun to travel in the Airstream…..we attract attention wherever we go and have met so many people……our Uwe designed Airstream has been more fun than I ever dreamed it could be.

“I am confident that there is no Airstream component that they could not repair, replace, or improve if a customer desired. Ours was a pleasant experience with Area 63 and an excellent outcome.”

Five stars for Area 63! We’ve owned two other Airstreams – this will be the one we stay with. Our ’59 Tradewind is now remarkably more functional in its design. Seating and sleeping now are comfortable, we are totally leak proof, appliances fit and function perfectly, we have gained a great deal of interior storage, and the interior is visually pleasing. Uwe and his crew were easy to work with, very innovative in problem solving, and creative in offering alternatives. I am confident that there is no Airstream component that they could not repair, replace, or improve if a customer desired. Ours was a pleasant experience with Area 63 and an excellent outcome.

“I have been blessed to have Uwe as not only a teacher but as a friend. I recommend Uwe and Area 63 Productions to any trailer owner or soon to be owner. The services and education are invaluable.”

I first met Uwe when he came to inspect a trailer I had purchased. Uwe not only gave me towing, hitching, and backing lessons, but taught me how to use the systems on the trailer. After assisting in the sale of my first trailer, I sent Uwe (unwilling I think haha) out of state with a pocket full of money to inspect another trailer I was interested in purchasing. I must say I was a bit nervous if I would see him again. Not only did he complete the inspection, he handled all the details of purchase including negotiations, repairs, upgrades and paperwork on my behalf. I have been blessed to have Uwe as not only a teacher but as a friend. I recommend Uwe and Area 63 Productions to any trailer owner or soon to be owner. The services and education are invaluable. I also urge women to take the time to learn how to hitch and tow yourself so that you may be self sufficient. I feel cool and confident towing on my own…now if I could only learn how to parallel park my VW.

“His technical expertise and opinions were really valuable to me. He is a natural teacher, with patience and excellent communication skills to make the technical information understandable by a novice like myself.”

I want to put in the strongest possible pitch for Uwe’s consulting services.  I decided to buy an Airstream and renovate it for use by my wife and myself.  I had no significant experience regarding most of the tasks and tools involved in a major rehabilitation of a camper.  I was looking for a project that would teach me new skills, and I eventually decided to buy a 1956 Flying Cloud.  The renovation would require me to remove the entire interior (including the interior walls and original insulation and wiring) and build from scratch a new interior, including new electrical and plumbing systems.

I recently spent several days with Uwe at his shop, and the time was extremely well spent.  Uwe’s technical expertise regarding camper renovations seems limitless.  Based on my conversations with Uwe, there is not a renovation task, system, or process that he has not encountered. We discussed cabinets and woodworking, electrical circuits and fixtures, plumbing systems and plumbing fixtures, running gear (wheels, axles, and brakes), sheet metal working, and interior cabin layout. He offered opinions regarding my tentative plans, and he made recommendations that I highly valued. He did not try to persuade me one way or another; he did provide, however, alternatives to my tentative plans, and those alternatives were very, very useful. His technical expertise and opinions were really valuable to me.

He is a natural teacher, with patience and excellent communication skills to make the technical information understandable by a novice like myself.  As we would discuss various subjects, Uwe would demonstrate or show something by taking me into the shop to a trailer where I could view first-hand what he wanted me to understand. He drew several system diagrams that I will be able to use when I start construction.  He also identified products and suppliers that he thought would be useful to me.

I could not have had better or more informative sessions than the ones I had with Uwe. If you need some expertise on a camper renovation, I recommend Uwe!

“All in all: amazing!! I have had many, many guests stay in the SAFARI since it got finished, and everyone is deeply impressed with the interior.”

Uwe (he owns Area 63 Productions) helped me turn a true AIRSTREAM NIGHTMARE into a very fulfilling project with a fantastic end product! I purchased a 1965 AIRSTREAM SAFARI and discovered after the purchase extreme floor rot and rodent infestation. Luckily I found Uwe’s company on the internet – out of all the Airstream restoration places, he seemed to have the most modern style and eye for detail! My first impression turned out to be very true! Uwe was extremely dedicated in accommodating my (sometimes quite demanding) design ideas and wishes.

He helped me, for example, build a modern style trundle bed in the front of the SAFARI. Indeed, on first sight it is not noticeable that the lounge sofa would also function as a double bed! Uwe would always go an extra mile with everything he did. I visited the workshop quite often and could witness his thought and building process, which is very detail oriented! Uwe would even handpick the mahogany laminate sheets to find ones that carried a beautiful wood grain! All in all: amazing! I have had many, many guests stay in the SAFARI since it got finished, and everyone is deeply impressed with the interior.

“The craftsmanship and attention to detail of Uwe and his team are truly exceptional.”

Uwe asked me how I used the trailer and what my goals for renovation were before proposing a few alternatives for restoring my Airstream. Plumbing, electrical, heat, hot water and holding tanks were all modernized without changing the original look of the trailer. The original woodwork had a few damaged areas. Uwe was able to make the repairs match the old woodwork. The craftsmanship and attention to detail of Uwe and his team are truly exceptional. He clearly outlined the work and estimated costs and kept me updated throughout the process. I appreciate his sensitivity to design with a historical perspective and would highly recommend his work for small repairs or a complete restoration.
