1959 Globetrotter
July 16th, 2009
We recently started work on a very sweet 1959 Airstream Globetrotter. It is in dire need of some flooring work, a new water system, electrical update, and a fantastic vent. The plan calls for inconspicuous updates, such that originality is preserved as much as is possible and practical. The Globetrotter features a front curbside bathroom, a front streetside lounge, streetside galley, curbside fridge and storage cabinet, and bed across the rear. It is a basic trailer, without hot water, or a shower/tub.
A new water tank was ordered and fitted, not plumbed in yet, but fits nearly perfect behind the drawer space where the old tank once sat.
We think this one might have more capacity, since it is rectangular in diameter instead of round.

We removed the rear floor in sections to avoid interior damage.
We did find a rusted rearmost cross member, decided to remove it and in it’s place install a new part, fabricated from 3×4 steel tubing.
Rust Gone!
A new cross member is in place. Ready for new flooring.
…new floor…
…in place and sealed…ready for floor tiles.
Old, hail damaged, leaking from the seams roof vent.
New fantastic vent, installed and sealed, but not yet wired.
We will post more updates on this project and others soon, so keep checking in.
