1966 Globetrotter
December 23rd, 2008
A few weeks ago we started on Harry’s 1966 Globetrotter. Harry is a most excellent architect, and this will be his retreat/drawing room. It won’t travel much, but rather be planted on a property nearby. In the first phase, the exterior will be cleaned up. To be presentable, it needs some metal work, some patches, some paint, and a complete polish. Since it will be a dry trailer, propane and water systems do not need to be functional. We’ll keep them in place, and close by, just in case there’s a need in the future.
Here she is, awning and exterior features removed for stripping and polishing.
Tongue propane rack cleaned up, ready for primer.
Water heater removed, ready for a patch.
First section of skin stripped. Looks almost like brand new metal. Too bad the other side wasn’t as nice. The trailer had oxidized much more on teh curb side, and shows all sorts of filiform corrosion. But, we’re confident that it will turn out just as nice as can be.
A first pass of compound polish revealed a nice shine underneath all that grey corrosion.
…elbow grease….
After 2 passes of compounding, it is starting to look like its going to work out just fine.
ready for the cyclo pass.
2 patches, ready to be polished upon.
A former stove vent, prepped for sealing.
To be continued..
