VRR 2010
June 10th, 2010
Area 63 Productions again sponsored and attended the WBCCI 4 Corners Unit’s 3rd annual Vintage Restoration Rally. A long weekend filled with classes, seminars, hands on workshops. All Centric to Vintage Trailer Restoration.
Part of the group during our nightly panel discussions on vintage restoration topics. a very interactive event, where attendees can ask questions of a panel of restoration professionals.
The event was held at Enchanted Trails Campground, just West of Albuquerque, NM. A tent was provided for hands-on classes on restoration topics. Area 63’s 1958 Flying Cloud was brought in from California for not only show and tell, but also to demonstrate restoration techniques.
This 1958 Airstream had been used in 2009 to do a complete side skin replacement, right on site in Albuquerque. Since then it has received new interior skins, and a small amount of interior furnishings. Also, water and holding tanks, as well as a new belly pan.
Attendees closely inspecting a black and grey tank retrofit under this 1958 Flying Cloud.
Our MC, Albuquerques very own Ken Johansen. Ken did a great job with this Rally, and kept everybody informed during the event. There’s so much more that Ken did for this event….THANK YOU KEN!
Dale “Peewee” Schamborn, our guest of honor. Dale went on some of the early overseas Caravans with his uncle, Wally Byam….what an absolute treat to have Dale at this Rally. He spoke of the early days and adventures of the WBCCI for several hours, 2 nights in a row. A treasure not only as a personality, but also as a person…
Steve Bittner, during a Zolatone demonstration in the tent. Zolatone donated materials for this demonstration. Steve held this class on preparation, priming, and finally application of the Zolatone product.
Steve also showed how to scribe bulkhead panels to the curved interior wall of a vintage Airstream. His talents as a finish carpenter are amazing.
